The Best Night-Time Nappy

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

Nighttime real nappy use can be a daunting issue for many parents, and some really struggle to find something that will last their child through a dry night. Here we discuss those nappies which really pack a punch when it comes to absorbency and give you some suggestions to try if you are still searching for that perfect nighttime nappy!

What is your favourite Night Time Nappy?

We all know the night-times require an absorbent nappy in order to keep your little’un dry until morning. Both disposable and real nappy users will often try a few different types and brands to find the perfect solution, and here we will provide a little insight into those we have tried and tested, and what works for us.

When our daughter was a young infant, stuffables were our night-time nappy of choice. We liked the fact that we could control the amount of absorbent layers we stuffed the nappy with, and our firm favourite was always the Wonderoo. Although the Wonderoo might not suit every child, for us it has always been a dream and seems to provide a really comfortable fit. We could always trust it to keep our daughter dry till morning.

However, as she grew and started doing bigger wee’s the stuffables just didn’t cut it for night-time use. So at around 8 months we switched to fitted nappies with a wrap during the night, and as we love to experiment we tried quite a few different ones! Bambinex Bamboo, MotherEase One-Size, MotherEase Sandys, Tots Bots Cotton Tots, Tots Bots Bamboozles, Flexi-Tots, Modern Baby Pop-Ins, and Little Kiwi Quick Flips. There were certain fitted nappies which we used in the day, but knew they would not be absorbent enough for night use, such as the Bambinex Teddy and the Thirsties Fab Fitted. Bamboo or Cotton is the best bet for night use.

The Tots Bots Bamboozle and Cotton Tots work well with an extra booster layer, however now at 17 months the nappies are very wet by the morning. A snug fitting wrap ensures that the moisture doesnt leak, and a fleece liner keeps her bottom dry. Our wraps of choice for night time are usually fleece ones, we particularly like the Starbunz, Debbies Nappies Fleece Wraps and Fleece Soakers. These all provide maximum comfort and good containment. We also find the Blueberry Wraps to be an excellent night time choice.

However, the very best night time fitted nappies we have used are the Motherease Sandy’s , the Little Kiwi Quick Flip and the Modern Baby Pop-In. Boy are these thirsty nappies! The Sandy’s in particular hold so much wetness, and parts of it are even still dry by morning! The downside is that is really slow drying, so you will need a few of them to keep the rotation going. The Pop-in with the additional night time booster pad provides some mega absorbency (although be prepared some some bulk!) and because the parts seperate, this does aid drying times.

Feel free to contribute and let everyone know what nappies work (and what doesn’t work!) for you :)
