Avoiding Animal Testing- Baby Products
Monday, February 2nd, 2009As society and families develop a greater concern for our environment, and those we share it with, many are sourcing animal friendly products when it comes to shopping for themselves, and for their babies.
As earth-conscious parents it is our duty to support only those companies who maintain reasonable ethical standards, and we can help you to do that.
Animal Friendly Baby Products
As society and families develop a greater concern for our environment, and those we share it with, many are sourcing animal friendly products when it comes to shopping for themselves, and for their babies.
As earth-conscious parents it is our duty to support only those companies who maintain reasonable ethical standards, and engaging in unnecessary and morally deplorable animal experimentation does not fall into that category.
To make life a little easier when it comes to sourcing the companies and products that do not involve vivisection, we have compiled a list of those which are vegan friendly (i.e. no animals harmed in the making of!)
Baby Milk
Well breastmilk is the obvious and preferred choice here without exception, however in the rare event that this should be an impossible option Heinz Nurture Soya Infant Formula is the only known animal-free formula milk available in the UK. It is vegan, and approved by the Vegetarian Society.
Nappies
It may come as a surprise that almost all disposable nappies involve the use of animal experimentation. Animals are used to test the toxicity of the chemical gels that are used in the nappies, and most if not all of the major disposable nappy brands engage in animal research.
Animal friendly alternatives include:
Moltex Oko eco-disposable Nappies
Baby Wipes
Many commercial baby wipes are manufactured by companies who engage in animal experimentation, or contain chemicals or fragrances tested on animals. Some wipes may also contain lanolin, which is derived from wool and the skin of slaughtered animals.
Animal friendly alternatives include:
Cotton Wipes - reusable wipes are also much better for the environment
Baby Products
Beaming Baby - Bubble Bath, Shampoo & Bodywash, Nappy Cream, Baby Lotion
Green People- Mum & Baby Moisturiser, Lavender Baby Wash, Chamomile Baby Wash, Toothpaste
Essentially Yours- Baby Lotion, Bubble Bath, Shampoo, Massage Oil, Nappy Cream
Hopefully that helps some way to get you started on your animal friendly quest. The key is to check ingredients labels, and if a product doesn’t state that it is not tested on animals, there is a good chance that it is. Generally those who are against animal testing have the good sense to boast the fact! Good luck!
