Featuring: Precious Nappies
Tuesday, April 21st, 2009Precious Nappies specialise in supplying starter packs of real nappies, made from both bamboo and microfleece. They aim to take any confusion out of using real nappies and we wanted to find out more so roped Cheryl into answering a few questions for us!
1) What led you to start your business, what was your motivation?
Precious Nappies was founded out of a desire to take all of the confusion out of buying reusable nappies. When I
started searching for alternatives to disposables the information was so vast and you needed a degree to try and make sense of it. I wanted to ensure that others could buy reusable nappies without having to wade through masses of information. Customers are interested in 3 things, how much do they cost, do they work and how can I buy them - if I can make these decisions simple then hopefully I’ve fulfilled what I set out to achieve..
2) What products do you sell?
Precious Nappies only sells 2 types of material bamboo & microfleece. Bamboo is natural and will appeal to parents wanting a hypoallergenic &naturally antibacterial fabric. Microfleece is a man made fabric but is virtually dry when it come out of the wash. Precious Nappies specialises in providing starter packs which contain absolutely everything you willneed. When we first bought our own reusable nappies we were really excited when the package arrived but then found we needed a bucket, a net bag (to go inside the bucket) and some sanitiser to soak them. We didn’t want this to happen to others particularly as you don’t know what you might need anyway when you first get started!
3 Does your product or service has a unique selling point?
Cost - the starter packs mean that you don’t have any additional cost. You only need to buy your liners and tea tree oil once you have run out. Also at the moment we are offering parents the opportunity to spread the cost of purchasing the Starter Packs.
4) Where can people buy your products?
We offer a local service to parents in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire & SouthYorkshire where we will deliver goods over £10 free of charge. Goods canbe ordered over the phone, via our website at www.preciousnappies.co.uk orat one of the local events we attend.
5) What do you enjoy most about what you do?
Setting up my own business has been a huge challenge and has been a life long ambition, Having my own business allows me some degree of flexibilityalthough on many occasion I can found bouncing my 11 month old on my knee whilst responding to emails or burning the midnight oil trying to get stuff done! I am really sociable person and love dealing with people, I love to see the look on peoples faces when they touch and feel the nappiesand then realise how much money they can save by using Precious Nappies.
6) Do you have any Top Nappy Tips to share with our readers?
To remember that these are not disposables but reusable nappies allow you to achieve the same result in a cost effect and ennvironmentally friendly way. They are no more hassle than a disposable, you still have to put them in a bin but instead of the dustbin they go in the nappy bucket. Only wash every other day, this will halve your electricity costs. Unfortunately the only thing Precious Nappies don’t do is change themselves!
