Bumgenius Organic Review

Having used Bumgenius 3.0 solely for six months now I was keen to review the Organic version, and here goes….

The Bumgenius Organic nappy on first impression looks very similar to the Bumgenius Pocket, however key differences are the fastenings and the overall slimness of the nappy.  The outer nappy is polyester and the slimness is due to the six layers of organic cotton, which aims to absorb wetness and keep dry.  Rather than using Aplix fastening, the nappy uses “easy snap closures” to fasten the nappy, as well as for the size adjustments as your baby grows.

My observations and finds:

I have a preference for Aplix, and found the fastenings were a little awkward in comparison, and it took me a couple of wears to find the correct fit.  But once I found the best fit for my baby, the nappy was both snug and comfortable for her.

The interior of the nappy is an off white, which is more user friendly in terms of stain visibility.  I did find that the aborbency increased with washes, however the nappy did not keep my daughter as dry as the Bumgenius V3.0; I found that after two hours she felt quite wet and needed changed (I usually go three to three and a half hours during the day with the V3.0).  The nappy was definitely less bulky than the pocket, and I would rather have the increased absorbency as a benefit over slimness, overall.

The nappy was very easy to wash as an all in one, and was quick drying in around 24 hours on a clothes airer at room temperature, which is faster than some bamboo nappies in my experience, although not as fast as the Bumgenius V3.0.  Once dried the nappy was ready to use and did not have to be put together as with the pocket version (a big plus for my husband!).

Overall…..  I have a strong preference for pocket nappies and the Bumgenius V3.0 is the only nappy I use with my daughter at present.  I would happily add this to my collection for day use, particularly for ease of care mid week and less time needed in putting the nappy back together than the pocket version (particularly when I return to work!).
