Half term mobility…..

Monday, June 8th, 2009

My life has just taken a new turn…… My seven month daughter is now mobile, and can get across my living room in less than ten seconds, in a sort of commando roll, stright to her four year old brother and his toys.

Fantastic for her, very stressful for me, particularly as it happened at half term when he was off school, and his favourite play things all come complete with major choking hazards (lego, play mobile, power rangers…..).  I have been trying to recall the stress factor when he became mobile, and I am sure there was none, and our house was 100% baby proof, with not a choking hazard in site.  My recent save a baby’s life course very confidently sited Lego and Barbie shoes as causing highest incidents of choking in babies, further raising my stress levels…….

My dilemma was posed……. Do I ban his toys from the living room, and subsequently him (he goes where his toys go!)???? Do I imprison her in a play pen????? Oh the joys of being a parent of two!  Half term was a real challenge of picking up, separating and chasing whilst we were in the house.

Our solution…. To baracade half of the living room off with toy boxes she can’t climb over (at least for another few months!), and he has one side, she has the other.  I can sense more challenges ahead………
