How do I get it clean????
Wednesday, June 17th, 2009I am definitely not adverse to mess, although I do like to be able to get things clean, for hygene, never mind asthetics! This is where weaning poses yet another question …… What equipment do you use?
With my son I purchased a top of the range Mamas and Papas high chair, complete with faux leather padded seat and reclining positions enabling him to sit in the chair whilst we were in the kitchen nice and comfortably. The fun started when the feeding began! I had actually forgotten how messy this chair got and how difficult it was to clean until my daughter started to use it…….
My thought now is who in their right mind would purchase a high chair where you need grippers and a screw driver to remove the straps to wash???? Why do you need all those creases in a chair, all the more space for food to gather???? Why would a high chair be designed with such impractical features????
I quickly discovered after months of being unable to get the chair clean, a smooth, easy to clean plastic chair, from Ikea, which was about £12 at the time (a tenth of the cost of the monster as it is known now), and look forward greatly to it coming down from the loft for meal times! The comfy padded chair can still be used for sitting in the kitchen, with the plastic for meal times. She is not quite ready in terms of sitting up for the easy to clean version as of yet, a few more months of cleaning challenges to go!
Bibs with sleeves are also a massive help during this time, although we still manage to cover outfits (hers and mine) at most meal times; a little bit of sunshine gets these clean, a great tip from my mother in law. And as for the floor, my saviour has been a 50cm strip of plastic backed table cloths - wipe clean and you can even recycle some of the food “accidentally” thrown on the floor!
As my mother keeps telling me, mess is great and encourages learning. I agree 100%, and cleaning it up in as quick a time as possible is even better!
