The concept is simple, an absorbent pad which lies inside an outer washable cover. The nappy is one-size, so is designed to fit from 8-35lbs approx, and when the nappy is wet or soiled the insert/pad can simply be replaced without the whole nappy being washed each time. Here we answer some of the many questions which have arisen since the Flip launch here in the UK. Read on…
What are the pads/inserts made of?
The inserts of the Flip nappies are manufactured in 3 forms: Disposable, Stay-Dry and Organic. Whilst not all are yet available in the UK, here is some info on each.
1) Flip Disposable Inserts provide roughly the same absorbency as a size 3 or size 4 disposable nappy. The inserts were tested to meet Oeko-Tex 100 standards. They are unbleached, dye-free, lead-free, PVC-free, phthalate-free, fragrance-free and latex-free. No plastic. No adhesives. View Flip Disposables here
2) Flip Stay-Dry Inserts are made of 3 layers of microfibre and one top layer of micro-fleece. Fold lines have been sewn on one end so the insert naturally folds to the right size when you’re putting it in the cover. These are designed to dry very quickly. View here
3) Flip Organic Inserts are made from 100% certified organic cotton. This is designed to fold one direction for a large / medium setting and the other for a small setting. View here
Are the Stay-Dry inserts the same as those in the bumGenius 3.0?
Although these are comparable in size, they are different because they are topped with a layer of microfibre for that stay-dry effect next to the skin, and the poppers have been elimnated so they can be adjusted one-handed.
Can I use my bumGenius one-size inserts inside the Flip cover?
Yes you can, although be sure to place the insert either underneath the Flip one, or place a fleece liner over the top of the insert, as the microfibre can irritate the skin when it has direct contact.
Are they only available in 3 colours?
At the moment yes, the Flip nappies are only available in Moonbeam, Ribbit and Zinnia. The full 9 colours from the bumGenius range will be rolled out however in approx. 6 months time.
Are the Flip’s any good for night-time use?
Yes, the organic inserts in particular have been receiving rave reviews for over-night use, and for use with heavy wetters. When using the Stay-Dry inserts, it may be necessary to place 2 inside the nappy ofr night use on older infants.
Do regular pre-folds fit inside the Flip covers?
Yes, most pre-folds should fit just fine inside the Flip covers if you wanted to use them with any existing nappies you might have.
How do these compare size-wise with the bumGenius 3.0?
The Flip actually accomodate larger children better than the bumGenius range does. Many people who are using the largest setting on their bumGenius 3.0 are actually using the smallest setting on their Flips!
Flips are currently available from a range of UK online retailers, including Fill Your Pants and are available from £13.95.
