Soap nuts - The all natural detergent
Thursday, February 11th, 2010The soap nuts of Sapinidus Mukorossi have an incredible number of uses. Just one small handful of these is enough to clean your laundry up to 7 times and, once they have been fully utilised… you can just pop them in your compost bin! Read on…
As economically friendly as they are environmentally friendly, soap nut shells will clean your laundry naturally and to a very high standard. Simply pop them in an old sock and throw them in the washing machine with the rest of your laundry, you can reuse them for up to 7 different washes before disposing of them in the compost bin to biodegrade. Soap nuts reduce the cost of each wash load to around 3p compared to 25p for a standard non biological detergent, saving you an average of £90 per year to spend on more fluffy nappies!
The benefits of soap nuts and their shells are numerous. Not only are the saponin (nature’s detergent) containing shells, of the sapinidus mukorossi tree, a gentle cleanser for even the most sensitive skin, but the nuts themselves are among the list of herbs and minerals in Ayurveda. Why purchase non bio detergent in hopes that it won’t irritate your eczema when soap nuts have been proven to actually help it!? Your laundry has never felt so soft and neither has your skin.
As if that wasn’t enticing enough… they are also excellent for cleaning dishes and are dishwasher friendly. Being fragrance free makes them perfect for this, however if you want your laundry to smell nice then you might want to add a few drops off essential oil to your wash.
I, personally, cannot recommend these enough. My laundry is as soft as if I had used a fabric conditioner which, we all can agree, is a major plus when it comes to nappies. I’ve never felt so eco friendly!
These can be purchased online and many places are offering free samples.
