Newborn Nappy Excitement
Sunday, February 14th, 2010As you may be aware, we are expecting our second baby in May, by which time it will have been a whole year that our fabulous nappy stash has been set away in the wardrobe, only being used for admiration purposes! Well it suddenly struck me the other night that with all the new nappies that have become available on the market since Ari potty trained at 2, we will have lots of new ones to try- and our stash can once again see the light of day!….Read on…
This got us talking about what nappies we will use for the teeny weeny stage, as we had used Bambino Mio with Arianne (which was before the wonders of nappy addiction had hit!) and weren’t exactly jumping for joy at the thought of using them this time around (in fact, they are now mostly used as very handy household cleaning cloths!)
As such, the bulk of our stash does consist of one-size nappies, and we pretty much have just one of everything (with Blueberries and BumGenius appearing a few more times each), so I had a ponder at what we will add to the stash for that newborn stage. I could go ahead and just use the one-sizes’s- but thats no fun! I want new nappies dammit!
We do have some Small Itti Bitti SIO’s which will most certainly come in handy, and will be adding some of the new, even slimmer, Itti AIO’s too for sure! We also love the bumGenius AIO’s we had when Arianne was older, so will be using quite a few of the XS of these - I could just sit and look at the gorgeous diddy-ness (is that a word?!) of these all day long! There is also no way on earth that the new Bamboozle Stretchies in the Size 1 will be escaping our grasp, and I think these will work a treat teamed with our favourite of the nappy wraps- the Bummis Superbrites. Oh and I am desperate to try the new Flip Organics for myself, these look to be just fantastic and the softness of the organic cotton is more than a little scrummy!
And you know what Im looking forward to most about having another baby in cloth?…….taking him or her along to Ariannes weekly Tumble Tots group sporting a different swanky nappy each time! And being another summer baby, I can team the nappy with some Babylegs for maximum effect! Ariannes nappies used to be the talk of the town most weeks, and it was impossible not to feel just a little smug when you are surrounded by an array of stinky disposables!
So there we go, my nappy excitement has officially begun- yay for cloth!
If you used cloth from newborn, which ones did you use?

Oh, Laura, it is so exciting for you expecting another baby and especially now that time is getting closer!
I definitely think the tiny Bamboozle Stretchies will be fantastic for a teeny tiny bot. Have just tested them, I think they will be great for explosive ‘just milk’ poo as the fit around the legs and back is really great. You can’t go wrong with the Itti Bittis though either, and lets not forget that they don’t get much fluffier than that!
I agree - you do get a really great feel good factor when displaying beautiful fluffy nappies at baby-group. I’ve always had lots of great comments and question about Honey’s Itti Bitti’s!
the stretchy bamboozles are a great fit on a new born. Ive been testing them for 5 weeks now and the size 1 and 2 fit great (although the size 1 is a nicer fit) and no leaks with either, unlike the itii bittis (which are now never used)
Wee Notions! They’re so soft and, as they’re customisable, you can pretty much design your own… have her name and DOB on maybe?

Hi im just reading ur reviews about resuable nappys and my minds in a jiggle lol all the diffrent chooses i dont know were to start!!
Im having my third baby due in july and ive decided im gona give reusable nappys a go but didnt know were to start so i googled it and found ur great web site, for a first time user can u give me any tips as to were to start as i was going to buy the bumgenius ones but my babys are usually small my last was 4lb but my first was 6lb so im hoping for a 6lb+ this time if everything goes to plan!! and i also need to know how many i need to buy thanks
OOh it is such an exciting time for you. Is it sad that I am planning newborn nappies for number two and we’re not even expecting! Well not yet anyway
The first cloth nappies I used with my newborn were Imse Vimse Flanellettes (from Sweden) with a PUL wrap. Slowly I started expanding my nappy stash, tried pockets, fitted diapers (with knitted wool covers) and some AIOs and by 5 weeks I fell in love with the Pop-In. It was the first AIO that didn’t leak. Now that my baby is almost 4 months and he has gotten more body mass in his legs, leaking isn’t much of a problem anymore. Now my favorites are some Finnish WAHM brands, and Blueberry (the prints!). I have quite an impressive collection of different brands and prints now. The Pop-Ins are still in use, but they look rather boring. They’ve never failed me, though.
I know exactly what you mean by the desire to wear cute nappies when out and about
I love to change nappies in public, hoping to have people notice them. Sadly most of the babies I see at these nappy changing stations are wearing stinky disposables. When starting with cloth nappies, I thought I’d be using disposables when out and about, but now it has to be some extreme emergency before my baby is in public wearing yucky disposables…
