Trolley Dolly Review

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

I was first introduced to the ‘Trolley Dolly’ a few weeks ago, and both Cath and I were very fortunate enough to be able to review these GENIUS bags! Read on for both of our reviews as we streamlined our shopping trips and saved the planet! Oh and all of our lovely readers get a Discount on these too! …..

Lauras Review:

Well, food shopping is officially my least favourite chore of the week- I just hate it! However, for the first time in, well perhaps ever (!), I skipped out of my front door  last weekend with a merry step on my way to the supermarket…..Why? Trolley Dolly is why!

First to explain the product- the Trolley Dolly is the worlds first patented solution to shopping without ever needing to use a plastic bag again! Packed inside the handy (and gorgeous!) outer bag you will find:kew-trolley-dolly

6 x Vest Style reusable bags with long handles in assorted colours

2 x Shoulder bags

2 x Short-handled carry bags

10 x Fruit and Veg net bags

1 x Trolley Token

The net bags have been specially designed to come under tare weight, so you can weigh all your fruit and veg whilst inside the bags, and these I have to say are just amazingly useful!

The outer bag features a velcro closure which is designed so that you can fit the bag around your shopping trolley handle, and the front pocket can be used to hold any coupons, vouchers or a shopping list for handy viewing while you shop! And of course the handy shopping trolley token sits right there on the side so you never need worry about not having that pound coin on you again!

We received our bag on the Friday, and I set off to Sainsbury’s first thing on Saturday morning just so eager to use my new gadget! Starting in the fruit and veg aisles, I did not need to use a single plastic bag, and proudly popped all my veg into the little net bags which are just perfect- and look so much nicer sat inside the shopping trolley too! Your veg can remain stored in these in your fridge too, and are machine washable for use next time around.

Again, loved that I didnt need to carry my usual big bulky ‘bag of bags’ to the checkout, and just popped out each reusable bag as I needed them- again these come in fabby colours (my husband will always use the red and black ones, whereas I love sporting the lime, pink and blue!) and make the full trolley just look so much more organised!

Ive now used the Trolley Dollt a few times, and love it more and more- I’ll certainly never look back! I even got my lovely mother one, and just as I anticipated she was absolutely thrilled with it and has proceeded to rave about hers to anyone who will listen! The only downside? My little daughter loves the Trolley Dolly just as much as I do and sees it as her own little handbag! She would walk around with it on her shoulder for hours given the opportunity- Ive literally had to pry it from her to get to the bags at times!

Trolley Dolly gets my personal 10/10

Like most women, Madam Pants and I love our shopping – clothes, shoes, books – and I am already passing on the skills I inherited from my own mother. We also love bags, MP finding them handy things for hiding items in, me finding them handy for carting around essentials.

But one type of shopping we are both less keen on is the weekly supermarket shop.

I have tried on line shopping but always fail to be impressed with the selections of fruit we receive and it just doesn’t work for me on the whole, despite the time saving aspect.

Being keen on keeping green, we do try to use bags for life or reusable shoppers rather than bundling all the shopping into one carrier bag after another. But they seem to take up a lot of boot space, or they get left at home, or I don’t have enough and still need to take carriers. And in addition, loose veg and fruit still needs to be carted around in those horrible plastic bags that you can never find near the item you want to buy, or they split, well that’s when you can even open them…

So when Laura told me about the chance to do a review of a product called The Trolley Dolly, I had a quick squiz at the website and got very excited indeed.

A wonderful range of beautifully designed “handbags” that contain a world’s worth of shopping carriers! Inside are “all the bags you will need” and they aren’t exaggerating!

As it is explained on the website, packed inside the handy outer bag are 6 Vest-style carrier bags with long handles in assorted colours, 2 shoulder bags, 2 short-handled carrier bags, 10 fruit & veg net bags with cord lock closing fastener. And the best news about the fruit and veg bags is that they are now under the tare weight – meaning they are about the same weight as a plastic bag so you can weigh the fruit and veg in it and it won’t add any extra weight. For more information on the bag’s contents look here

What I hadn’t realised when I received the pack was that the reason the interior bags are such a vivid array of colours is to help you pack more easily. (i.e. Green for fruit & veg, Blue for frozen goods, etc.) Fantastic!

In addition to the actual shopping bags, the outer bag ( my choice was the pin dot black) also has a trolley token, a clear plastic pocket on the front for your shopping list, a mobile phone pocket and several other pockets, all meaning that when you go into the supermarket, all you need is one small bag – that rather cleverly velcro closes around the trolley handle - meaning no taken up space in the trolley and it is nice and secure in front of you. Although I have to say, as there are card pockets it might be better to take only the cards you need as I found the weight of my purse plus phone stretched the velcro fastening to the limit and it came undone due to gravity’s pull. That however can easily be rectified by only taking the bags you need and a small purse.

I couldn’t wait to get shopping! So off I went to the supermarket, feeling rather excited, and really hoping that someone would notice my gorgeous bag.

I had my trolley coin to hand and strapped the bag across the handles and soon we were off towards the supermarket. The first aisle was the fruit and veg one. So MP pulled out a green net bag, we filled it up and popped it into the trolley, already clocking people having a sneaky peak. Several bags later, we carried on with our shopping and finally got to the check out.

All the way around, MP was taking out bags and putting them back in, singing as we went along – clearly a fun game!

I grabbed out 4 bags, one in each colour and straight away the woman serving me commented on what bright colours they were. When she weighed the fruit she got really excited and wanted to know where I had got it from. The bags were really easy to use and despite having several heavy items, I felt they were much stronger than plastic bags. All in all a great shop, that fitted £50 of shopping in quickly and minimal bags were required.

In fact it was so handy and useful, hubby feels he will be able to use it as well without feeling like a complete plum – mainly because it doesn’t have flowers on! .

I also required a nice shoulder bag to carry all my items in this weekend. So I picked a nice bright red bag from my trolley dolly selection and it has contained everything I needed. I managed to get my purse, the sat nav, a big sports bottle of water, phone, wallet, fruit, two note pads, two folders and an a4 file pad. And there was room for a bit more! Again people commented on what a super bag it was… plenty of sales marketing opportunities amongst the green-living yoga community!

As well as the wonders of shopping, we also discovered a lovely addition to the benefits of the Trolley Dolly. MP loves it. She has had so much fun carrying it around, opening and closing the velcro, putting her shopping in it at home and pulling out all the bags in wonder! Several “oooh’s” were heard as she pulled a nice bright pink shopper out. I had been planning future play opportunities of filling green bags with green things, blue with blue, etc to help with her colour knowledge when she is a bit older but was really struggling to find nice bags with just one colour – so these will be great for that too! I bet that wasn’t in the plan, but it is definitely a plus!

I can’t recommend them enough, and I have a small feeling there might be a few on Christmas shopping lists!

So to pick up your Trolley Dolly, visit the website and use the code ”reallyp15” to get 15% off! (RRP £29.95)
