Flip Disposable Inserts- Review

Monday, March 29th, 2010

We’ve been using the ultra handy bumGenius Flip with the Stay-Dry inserts for a couple of months now, and so when I saw the recent multi-buy offer on Fill-Your-Pants.com for the Flip disposable inserts, I thought I would give them a try. Here’s how we got on!…

The bumGenius Flip Disposable Inserts are the perfect solution if you are out and about with your baby, traveling or holidaying. They resolve the issues of having to contain and transport stinky nappies in your bag until you get home, and best of all, mean you don’t have to think about doing nappy washes whilst on holiday!

The inserts fit in exactly the same way as the Stay Dry and Organic reusables do, and are lovely and soft to the touch which I was pleased about. They are not as bulky as the reusables so you get a slimmer fit all round, which is great if wearing under party clothes! The folded liners fit neatly into any bag or pocket so are great for out and about, and of course, you can reuse the Flip liner again and again between washes, but if you do want to carry a spare one, then this also takes up no space at all - (bum)Genius!

I recently spent a couple of days away and instead of taking my usual biodegradable disposable nappies, I took my disposable Flip liners and a couple of covers, and what a difference to the packing it made, I saved so much space (room for another pair of shoes!) and it felt really good to be continuing to use my reusables - more value for money! My baby’s bot stayed happy and rub free too, which was fantastic as occasionally, when wearing a disposable, I have found them to rub a little which never happens with my reusables.

Performance wise, I was pleasantly surprised! The Flip disposable inserts held up really well and my baby stayed dry and comfortable with the brilliantly adjustable covers containing any mess. I don’t think I would want to use these overnight (then I don’t think they were ever meant for this) but if you were caught out, then I see no reason why you couldn’t just double up the liners for extra absorbency, if fact, I’d be more than confident with doing this.

My only tiny niggle with these inserts (and actually with the reusables too) is that they can be a tiny bit of a fiddle to put in and keep straight while trying to apply to a wriggling baby (my wee one treats trying to escape during nappy changes as an olympic sport!), because they are only held in place by small flaps at each end of the nappy. That said, my husband did a couple of nappy changes with the Flip, both with disposable and reusable inserts, and when I asked him what he thought of them, he was really positive! He thought that they were super quick and easy to use and he really liked how slim fitting the nappy was - high praise indeed from someone who HATES changing nappies!!!

Overall, the Flip Disposable Inserts are a brilliant addition to your nappy stash, and an absolute must if you are already using the Flips. I am really pleased with how they have stood up to testing and I will definitely be using these in preference to other disposable nappies whenever I am out and about, traveling, or simply if I’ve been slack on washing and drying the reusables!

ABOUT THIS AUTHOR

Hello! I am Holly, I gave birth to my little Honey Kea in June 2009 and am loving being a full-time Mum! I was so relieved to come across Fill-Your-Pants when I was pregnant and desperately trying to find practical advice about real nappies. I really liked the idea of using real nappies for all the usual reasons but was so excited to find that they came in so many fantastic styles - with so much choice and great performance results, I was soon hooked!
