GEN-Y Classic Wrap Review

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

The GEN-Y brand has made a BIG impression in the UK in a very short space of time, and we are not surprised! GEN-Y offer very high quality nappy wraps in regularly released limited edition prints that are highly sought after! In the GEN-Y range there is the Universal wrap, and the Classic wrap- here we take a look at the Classic and how it has worked for us. Read on….

GEN-Y Classic Wrap- Review

Fit: 5/5dia_de_dulcesclassic

The GEN-Y Classic wrap comes in 5 different sizes, for the optimum fit across the size ranges. Started with the XS which fits from approximately 8lbs, the XL takes you right through to 40lbs+. The GEN-Y Classic is a side-snapping cover- what this means is that each wrap has two rows of poppers at the hips- one row to adjust the fit at the waist, and one to adjust the fit on the legs. These side snaps made the Classic wrap a perfect option for babies who might have skinny waists but chubby thighs, or a budda belly and chicken legs….you can always achieve a great fit with the GEN-Y no matter the shape!

The Classic wrap is designed to be used over fitted nappies for folded terries and prefolds. We have found the Classic to work over everything we have tried it with- including Motherease Sandys and big Terry squares which are rather notorious for being difficult to achieve good coverage over. Because of the shape of the GEN-Y, they sit lower on the thighs than most other wraps, which means that they do provide excellent coverage over even the bulkiest of nappies.

Reliability: 4/5

We have yet to have our GEN-Y Classics let us down. Most of the GEN-Y covers have a cotton outer layer, and some people do get concerned with this leading to wicking, especially if used at night. In our experience, this has not ocurred and we regularly use them over our night nappies. If cotton was a concern for you however, minky covers are released from time to time also. The Classic covers do not have inner leg gussets, so may be slightly more prone to newborn poo-nami leakage, but as long as the nappy underneath is a good fit and you have the wrap on securely this shouldn’t be an issue. The GEN-Y sister wrap, the Universal, does have inner leg gussets if you prefer to have these.

Quality: 5/5

Faultless. GEN-Y covers are all manufactured in the USA to a very high standard indeed. The quality really does speak for itself. When you receive yours you will know exactly what we mean!

Value for Money: 5/5

Without doubt this category ticks a 5 stars. Priced at a competitive £10.95, the Classic wrap is great value for money for a very high quality wrap. But whats more, the demand for pre-loved and discontinued GEN-Y prints is simply phenomenal…there are whole group communities who trade GEN-Y wraps, and I once saw one go for over$200! Now THAT is an investment! Because of the nature of the print releases, once a print is gone, it is gone. But the demand certainly is not! So, if you have a nagging husband who is pleading with you to stop buying fluff, simply tell him that you are expressing your entrepreneurial streak and will eventually make big bucks from your addiction!

twt_1600Overall

Overall, we adore the GEN-Y Classic Wrap. The prints are just amazingly edgy, and the quality is fantastic. To date the ‘Serenity’ print has be to our all time favourite nappy print, of any nappy EVER. I smile every time I see it- no doubt the re-sale value on the Serenity will be very high, but could I ever part with it? I honestly don’t think so! New prints are released every couple of months (sometimes more frequently) and GEN-Y in the USA are working very hard to ramp up production to meet the exceptionally high and growing demand. I hear there might even be some more products in the pipeline, but Im keeping schtum! ;)
