Fuzzibunz Guru Review
Monday, November 21st, 2011The Fuzzibunz Elite is the ultimate One-Size nappy. It is highly adjustable, extremely slim fitting and incredibly quick drying and quickly becoming a firm favourite here at Fill Your Pants. We sent some nappies out to our Guru’s for testing, lets see how they got on!
Fit
The Fuzzibunz features an unusual concept in size adjustment, with button adjusted waist and leg casings. Much likethose on your maternity jeans or kiddies trousers! This gives you the ultimate in adjustability, with 8+ size settings on the leg casings and 4+ size settings around the waist, making the Fuzzibunz one of the best fitting nappies available.
Saffy: Initially I was a bit thrown by the adjusting system but actually its really easy once you’ve worked it out using the size chart, and wow what a perfect fit you can achieve. This is a very slim fitting nappy.
Alex: The sizing was easy to use and I love that the waist sizing is at the back and the front isnt very wide because then it will prevent wingdroop and looks so neat too!
Asta: There are no adjustment poppers down the front which produces the look of a sized nappy that completely fooled my husband (“why are you buying sized nappies?! That’ll be no good for the twins”). This does mean the size adjustment is less straight forward, however once it’s set you won’t need to touch it again and there are no additional poppers to confuse the nursery or babysitters. This unique feature has the added benefit of making it incredibly easy to replace the elastic should you need to, but with the huge adjustment available it should last you far longer than other brands.
Absorbency
The team at Fuzzibunz have chosen to use two Minky Inserts for the new ‘Elite’ nappy, one slightly larger than the other. A minky insert is a great choice because it is very absorbent but less bulky than other absorbent pads. This gives a much neater, streamlined look when the nappy is on. It is also odour and stain resistant, so no need to worry about stinky and stained nappies!
Asta: I did automatically use two inserts with this nappy as Esmé is quite a power wee’r these days, despite this the Fuzzi Bunz still looked really slim. It also lasted very well with no leaks despite her wearing tights and leaving it for 3+ hours.
Alex: And the inserts, oh my, I LOVE how soft they are!!! During a 6 hour period Travis had 26oz milk, 13oz tea and 13oz of juice! (Compared to 13oz juice in a pocket with 1 charcoal and 2 bamboo, which doesnt last an hour!!)
Saffy: I was also blown away by the absorbency as I was sceptical that such a slim nappy could hold that much wee without leaking. His skin was also dry even though the nappy was sodden when I changed him after 3 1/2 hrs and no leaks.
Ease of Use
Being a pocket nappy, the Fuzzibunz is a great cloth nappy that can be handed over to Dads, Grandparents or Nurseries because it is just so simple to use. Once your inserts are stuffed in (we usually do this all when they are dry before putting them away) they go on in one piece, just like a disposable nappy. Then when the nappy is used, take the whole thing off and put in your nappy bucket! Easy Peasy!
Alex: On the second day I asked Travis’ nursery to use it, they loved it, said it was easy to use and so compact too. Third test… The Inlaws, Cloth Nappy sceptics, said that if I only used Fuzzibunz they would HAPPILY use cloth while looking after Travis!
Washing And Drying
It is recommended that Fuzzibunz are washed with a cold rinse cycle, followed by a hot cycle (between 30 and 60 degrees) with detergent, and for particularly dirty nappies, a further cold rinse cycle. Fuzzibunz recommend using a detergent that is free from additives such as brighteners, dyes or perfumes/ scents, and that only 1/4 of the recommended amount. The Minky inserts are incredibly quick drying, coming out of the washing machine barely wet!
Saffy: They are a very quick drying nappy which is perfect for us as we don’t have a dryer.
Alex: Washing is easy, I followed the Fuzzibunz washing instructions, no stains and fast drying, Brilliant! I also dried the wrap and inserts inside, they were dry by morning!
Asta: The minky inserts dried really quickly so it was ready to go again the next day, even in our house where clothes can take days to dry.
Longevity
As this is a birth to potty nappy, you would expect that it will last for that time period at least. They fasten with durable snaps, they have easy to replace elastic which is provided with your nappy, and also an unmached warranty which covers your nappy for Snap, Elastic, PUL (waterproof layer) and sewing/workmanship defects for 1 year.
Asta: Just to be sure that these really will last you more than one child, Fuzzi Bunz even include a spare set of elastic in with the price (just make sure you put it somewhere safe!).
So ladies, what is the verdict?
Alex: I dont think there is anything I dont like about this nappy, and can’t wait to get some more!!
Saffy: The only slightly negative point is that they aren’t as easy to stuff as the Smartipants (I have big man hands!) but that said…I want a drawer full of FuzziBunz Elite nappies!!
What an excellent review of the Fuzzibunz Elite! If you are anxious to give one a go, the whole range is available from Fill Your Pants.
